Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (7 hrs)
Hazard identification and risk assessment are integral to creating healthy and safe workplaces. The first step in accident prevention is to identify and understand the health and safety hazards associated with activities and operations. The second step is to determine the risks posed by the hazards and how to minimize or eliminate those risks. This course teaches students how to perform inspections for hazard identification and risk assessment. Students learn to evaluate and prioritize the risks to workers posed by hazards.
The course will cover general inspections, pre-job hazard identification and a selection of hazard assessments prescribed by the WCB OHS Regulation.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
Identify hazards
Evaluate risk
Develop controls
Prioritize controls
Develop an Action Plan
Accident Investigation (7 hrs)
Do your accident investigations produce recommendations that are effective at reducing the recurrence of similar incidents? This course will give you the tools to achieve this by conducting interviews, organizing the data and investigating the site. You then develop recommendations and determine which ones will be forwarded to management based on cost, effectiveness and negative impact on the organization.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
Discuss the benefits of investigating
Discuss investigation criteria
Perform interviews
Investigate the incident site
Complete an accident investigation
Develop recommendations
Successful Safety Committee (4 hrs)
We believe that the safety committee plays an important role in accident prevention. In order to be a successful Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee, you need to be able to work together toward a common goal. In this course, we look at what your organization sees as successful and how to make safety mirror that success. A safety committee can save time and money and be a model of efficiency and effectiveness.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
Recognize the safety committee’s responsibilities
Identify what the organization does well

Deal with complaints
Prioritize safety issues
Develop:
An agenda
A format for meeting minutes
Recommendations for management
Violence in the Workplace (7 hrs)
Are your employees exposed to the risk of violence through contact with members of the public? This course defines violence in the workplace according to the WCB OHS Regulation, teaches you how to quantify the risk of violence and how to develop procedures to minimize that risk.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
Define violence in the workplace
Recognize regulatory requirements of the WCB OHS Regulation
Identify corporate and personal responsibilities

Discuss regulatory responsibilities
Identify multiple employer worksites
Differentiate between adjacent and overlapping sites
Designate a prime contractor
Perform pre-job hazard assessments
List the requirements for coordination
Fall Protection & Working at Heights (4 hrs)
Falls from height are one of the most preventable accidents. Failure to use fall protection is one of the most common WCB penalty actions. This course will teach roofers, painters, scaffold erectors, and others the basics of safe effective fall protection systems.
At the end of this course students will be able to:
Identify the regulatory requirements for fall protection
Develop a simple, safe fall protection program
Identify which fall protection system to use
Install a fall protection system
Inspect fall protection equipment
Develop a fall protection plan

Confined Space Entry (7 hrs)
Entering a confined space without proper procedures increases the risk of injury or death. This course will teach you to identify confined spaces and their hazards. We will take you through the process of creating procedures that meet the WCB regulation for confined space entry.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
Discuss responsibilities
Discuss confined space definitions

Chainsaw Safety (7 hrs)
A major contributor to incidents with chainsaws is the lack of knowledge about the hazards of chainsaw use. A properly sharpened chain and a properly adjusted carburetor make the difference between a productive day and a frustrating experience. This course provides the fundamentals for safe chainsaw operation and basic maintenance. The WCB regulation states that in a commercial venue all chainsaw operators must receive documented training before using a chainsaw.
At the end of this course the students will be able to:
Recognize regulatory requirements for chainsaw use
Identify required personal protective equipment
Identify general safety precautions
Practical chainsaw safety skills:
Basic chainsaw maintenance
Filing the chain
Performing safe cuts
Excavations (4 hrs)
As soon as you make any cut, cavity, trench or depression in the earth’s surface resulting from rock or soil removal the excavation regulation applies. The excavation regulation is very prescriptive about sloping and shoring procedures. This course is designed for both machine operators digging the excavations and the workers entering them.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
Recognize when:
Sloping and/or shoring is required
Engineer’s instructions are required on site
